Daybreak

The sun slowly peaked across the horizon, tossing pinks and golds out across the rapidly lightening sky. Dark clouds that had hung across the sky that night were burning away in the glow of the morning star. Soft light shone down on the world, the rays shifting through the drops of moisture left by the hard rain the night before.

Two young people sat on a large tree stump, watching the sun come up in awed silence. The bright light glint off their hair, both shades of gold.

The young man shyly turned his eyes to the young woman who sat by his side, watching her. The girl, for her part, just continued to watch the sun, a secret smile hovering on her lips.

"Tabitha?" The boy asked, his southern accent apparent in the word.

"Huh?" She asked, finally turning her eyes away from nature's glory.

"Nothin'." He said, shaking his head, his eyes dropping to the ground. The girl looked at him, her lips twisting into a funny shape.

"What, Sam?" Tabitha pressed, crossing her arms, and eyeing the young man.

Sam began to blush, his cheeks glowing in the dawn light. Tabitha noticed, and shook her head.

"What is it Sam?"

Sam didn't say anything, just fidgeted, finally lifting his eyes from the ground. The blonde girl looked at him in expectation, wondering what he had to say. He swallowed hard, and met her eyes finally.

Then, to both of their great surprise, Sam bent forward and brushed his lips against hers. The kiss was soft and sweet, gentle as a spring wind. Tabitha's eyes fluttered closed, her lashes brushing her cheeks gently. Sam lifted a hand to twin it gently with Tabitha's hair, closing his fingers around the velvety softness. His other arm wrapped around her waist, instinctively drawing her closer. She wrapped her arms around his neck, lifting herself up into his thin, strong arms.

Sam was the one to break the kiss, his arm still around her waist, and his fingers still tangled in her hair. Tabitha kept her eyes closed for a long second, the sunlight still gleaming down from the sky. Her eyelashes finally opened, her mouth forming a perfect o.

"W-wow." Was all she could say, her eyes widening. Sam grinned, the corners of his mouth lifting up and his eyes dancing.

He gently untangled his fingers from her hair, and brushed the tips across her cheek. Tabitha leaned into the gentle caress, her eyes closing once more.

Golden light danced across the two, making their hair glow like fire, before they met one another again in another sweet kiss.

And, behind a tree, Julio Richter grudgingly handed over a ten-dollar bill to a beaming Roberto DaCosta.
