LORD - DO YOU HAVE A MINUTE?
(written by Gail Batton - #45 - 5/26/90)
Lord, do you have a minute?
Why do the zebras have stripes?
I was just wondering -
Did the mother want a white one
Did the father want a black one
And to shut them both up -
You made the Zebra striped?
Lord, do you have a minute?
Why are flounders flat - with both eyes up on top?
I was just wondering
Is it because they like to play
Hide and seek from the foe
Is that why flounders are flat - with both eyes up on top?
Lord, do you have a minute?
Why are some people so short and some are so tall
Why are some people so skinny and some are so fat
Why aren't they all just like each other?
Is it so pride would not rule in their hearts
So you gave them something that they could not change?
Is that why each one is different?
Lord, do you have a minute?
We are made each one in your image
And you are unchangeable - so tell me please
Are you big and fat - or skinny as a rail
Do you have a mass of freckles
Are you blond with straight hair
Or are you brunette with curls galore
I was just wondering
For if we are like you
Why should we always be trying to change
Those who are fat - diet and run
Those who are skinny - eat like a pig
Those with hair that is straight - put in a perm
Those with hair of curls - use a straightener instead
Those who are blond - dye it brunette
Those who are dark - dye it to blond
Those who are short - wear high heals to look tall
Those who are tall - slouch down real low
If we are made like the Creator God
Shouldn't we try to be who we are
Thank you, Lord, for this minute -
I was just wondering...

If I could -
I would take this pain from you my friend
I would give you all the money that you need
I would hold you close and let you cry it out
I would mend your marriage and rescue your kids
I would take away your sorrows
I would calm your troubled heart
I would turn your darkness into Light
If I could -
I would go back in time and stop the abuse
I would bring back your loved ones who have died
I would take away your sickness and disease
I would send the enemy away
I would protect you with great armies
I would turn your tears to  smiles
If I could -
I would heal your broken heart and wounded spirit
I would find your missing children
I would buy for you clothes and food and shelter
I would sing to you fine melodies of love
I would give you back the house that burned
I would find for you the job you need
I would give to you sweet sleep instead of evil dreams
If I could -
I would be your mother and your father who are gone
I would be your sister and your brother who are away
I would be your child that you grieve so deeply for
I would be your friend every moment of every day
I would make the pain stop - the pain that nobody sees
I would fix the mistakes you made
I would give back all that you have lost in life
If I could - I would - but I cannot do for you these things
But, through it all - I shall pray for you
For God above can do what I would do if only that I could.
