LITTLE CHILD WITHIN THE WALLS

I hear her again, cying -
              "Daddy, Daddy, oh - Daddy"
              Where's that little child?
Night after night - I hear
The wails of the heart that is broken
              Until slumber pulls me aside
              Dulling my heart's ears
              To that lonely, pitiful cry
              "Daddy, Daddy, oh, my Daddy"

              Somewhere, locked away
              Muffled by the walls unseen
Only I can hear these endless cries
From the Little Child within the walls
Somehow, someway - I am determined
I am going to find that child
              Tear down those walls
              And set her totally free

Then lead her down the road
To come and forever live with me
For years, I've heard that cry
But fear caused me to race on by
Ignoring her sobs behind those walls
              Running, running in terror

Chased and attacked on every side
              Beaten and bruised
              Broken and sorely used
Hurry - hurry - running before my time
Trying simply each day to merely survive
              Finally I met a man

He gave me a sword to stop the foe
He gave me a helmet to protect my mind
He gave me a breast plate to shield my heart
He gave me a girdle of strength - of truth - to     cover my loins

He gave me foot coverings to walk in the gospel of peace
He gave me a shield to stop all attacks - all flaming darts
              Then, finally attired for battle
He stepped out before me and said -
              "Here, I'll lead the way

Fear not for I will never leave you
Nor will I ever forsake you."
He saw that I was blind
And had always in darkness trod
So, He touched my eyes in victory

I no longer hear the cries in the night
The Little Child within the walls
Has finally been released to run and play.
