I HEARD THE AGED SING
written by Gail Batton - #34 - 5/22/90
I work at a home - where the elderly live
And today something happened - that touched my heart
For I heard the aged sing - I heard the aged sing
We had special singers - to come and to praise
And beautiful songs - were sent to the throne
But then - I heard the aged sing - I heard the aged
sing
I looked about me - and all that I saw
Were old, worn out bodies - twisted in pain
Yet, I heard these aged sing - I heard the aged sing
As two hours - quickly raced by
With garbled voices - They begged for more
For these aged wanted to sing - I heard the aged
sing
They tapped their twisted feet in time
They clapped their knotted hands in joy
They smiled and laughed - and happy they were
I heard the aged sing - I heard the aged sing
But then to treatments and feedings
And changings they went
And back to sorrow and pain - in their rooms all
alone
Oh, Father, please send the Savior back soon
So, in heaven, eternal - the aged can sing
I heard the aged sing
With bodies made perfect - and voices of angels
No sadness or grief, or lonely days long
No begging for - a sip of water
Or for their beds to be dried
No wondering if their family is safe
When rarely a word or visit they get
No, in heaven, eternal - the aged can sing
I heard the aged sing
They wait on you - anxious to go
To heaven with Jesus - and sing at the Throne
They long to arise - from wheelchairs and walk
On your fine streets - paved with purest gold
They long to shed old hospital gowns
With soft robes of white - adorning these saints
As through a tube - they are fed each meal
They think of the banquet - Your angels prepare
In their hearts - Your Spirit still sings
Even when - in silence they lay
They each hope and wait with joy
For soon with Jesus - the aged will sing.
I heard the aged sing -
I heard the aged sing!!
