"Culture Club" concert
review

Nashville,Tennessee by: Thom Griffin

{8-18-98} It is 4:00 in the afternoon , Spencer (my lover) and I are getting ready for yet another Culture Club concert. I bought great seats to this venue. We are about 14 rows away from the stage this time. Hopefully we'll get closer than that if we are lucky enough. For such a gala event , I haven't a thing to wear- hehehehehehe..

"Music city" will become musical in Nashville when the lights dim at the Starwood amphitheater, and Culture Club begin performing. We finally arrived at the theater looking at the t-shirts and memorabilia. Howard Jones is performing on stage. Just one more act and Culture Club will be on stage. The excitement of it all . The theater isn't full just yet, but people keep pouring in by the grove.

Me and Spencer spotted a Boy George impersonator, he was posing with people taking pictures with them. The impersonator was dressed in the red circle outfit Boy George wore on the Album "This Time". There were all kinds of people young and old who dressed for the occassion. After our little walk, went to our seats to watch the remaining of Howard Jones. He did a fabulous gig.

Human League is next singing there few hits they had in the 80's. Certainly we'll have to wait toward the end of their performance to hear them. Much to my surprise the concert goers were fascinated with "Fascination". Then they played their last song "Don't you want me baby"........

Now my eurphoria is starting to kick in . The stage hands began clearing the set of Human League in preparation of the flawless main event. During intermission time, 80's music was playing in the theater. There were a few "alternative people" with the gay flag with colors of plenty waving them around and about over there heads with the music. Then abruptly! the music stopped and the lights started to fade.

The song "Heart of Glass" began playing by Blondie while the curtain slowly started to open. The stage lights came on and the crowd went hysterical. Me and Spencer were yelling right along with everyone else. With the band members in place, Boy George came out on stage and started the night with the song "Church of the poisoned mind". He was dressed in a black armani suit, and had on his red ,gold and green "Dr.Suess" hat . He also wore his trademark locks. He had on fushia pink shoes. Just about everyone was standing throughout the entire performance as Culture Club performed their signature songs. The encore of "Karma Chameleon" & "Starman" by Bowie ended the evening leaving everyone in obvious satisfaction. It was 2 hours of flawless entertainment. Zee, Roy,Mikey, and Jon were absolutely impressive. I still miss seeing Helen Terry though!! We love her anyway.

After the show, as we were making our way to our car, I saw the Boy George impersonator we saw before taking pictures. I called him over to where me and Spencer were . I thought maybe there was a chance he could get us in backstage (since he was the impersonator who made it on stage at the Atlanta concert to give George a hug).Well to make a long story short,he was detained by security and missed the C.C. performance for trying to manipulate people for a front row ticket!! Very sad for him.

There you have it XXXOOOO, Thom & Spencer
