BRUTALFEST In the beginning, the "BrutalFest" was conceived, mostly, as a concert organized among friends. Back in 1990 there still was certain harmony between Death, Crusty and Grind bands, which would disappear later on. This way, the effort to attract an attendance within the Mexican underground movement evolved to the point of reaching a much more distinctive audience. This has been reflected in the BrutalFest ’92 and forward, where the majority of the bands can be classified within the Death Metal category. It is really important to mention that this compilation represents the hard work of bands and individuals involved in the underground scene. Right now I am talking about the terrible odysseys we went through in order to recruit musicians, get instruments and good equipment, find a rehearsing place, and so on. This, of course, without mentioning the huge amounts of time usually invested in getting to this rehearsal place, the physical and emotional stress that was involved in getting a demo out, plus an endless list of problems most of you can relate to (especially in Central and South America). Often, the biggest problem consisted in finding a proper place to perform. Because of all this, the material that you are now holding in your hands faithfully reflects the enormous passion that we feel towards this phenomena known as the underground movement and it’s branches related to Metal and all of it’s subgenders. The material of some of the bands that no longer exist but appear on this compilation (with an *) may not be as contemporary, however, it reflects an essential part of what the underground scene was and still is, here in Mexico. Besides, it also reflects exactly what the BrutalFest represents to some of us. We do not pretend, in any way, to claim that the bands involved in this compilation are or have been the only ones in Mexico, actually, there is a huge list of bands that would gladly be part of this project, but unfortunately this was not possible due to lack of time and space. Now, all that’s left for me to say is that this won’t be the first, nor the last compilation of this sort, so, taking advantage of the possibility, I am extending you a warm invitation for the next project. Besides, I also want to express my gratitude towards all the bands and audience of the nine BrutalFests organized until now. See you next year for the BrutalFest 2000!

El BRUTALFEST se concebio ante todo como un concierto organizado entre amigos, en 1990 aun existía cierta armonía entre grupos de Death, Crustys, Hardcores y Grinders, y el esfuerzo conjunto por atraer a una audiencia dentro del underground se fue dando evolutivamente hasta llegar al punto donde las audiencias eran ya mas definidas, y eso se reflejaría del Brutalfest 92 en adelante, donde en si la mayoría de los grupos estaban dentro de la corriente del Death Metal. Algo muy importante de mencionar es que esta recopilación representa la ardua labor de grupos y personas involucradas en la escena underground, y me refiero a las terribles odiseas que tuvimos que pasar para encontrar integrantes, conseguir instrumentos, buen equipo, encontrar un lugar de ensayo, el tiempo que a veces nos tomo trasladarnos a ese lugar de ensayo, destrozarnos los nervios para sacar un buen demo o un buen fanzine, y una lista de problemas que la mayoría de ustedes ya sabrán de que estoy hablando (especialmente en centro y Sudamérica), y lo mas importante; conseguir un lugar para organizar un concierto. Es por eso que este material refleja toda esa gran pasión que sentimos por esto conocido como movimiento subterráneo y sus cientos de ramas derivadas del Metal en todos sus géneros, el material de algunas bandas que aparecen en esta recopilación (marcadas con * y que ya están disueltas) no es tan contemporáneo pero en si forma parte esencial de lo que la escena en México fue y es, y lo que el Brutalfest representa para algunos, en ningún momento queremos asegurar que los grupos involucrados aquí fueron o son los únicos en México, ni mucho menos. Hay una lista muy larga de grupos que les gustaría haber participado en este proyecto, pero por falta de tiempo y espacio esto no fue posible.

Ya solo me queda agregar que esta no será la primera y única recopilación de este tipo, así que aprovecho para hacerles una invitación para el próximo proyecto, y expresar mi agradecimiento a todos los grupos y los asistentes en estos 9 Brutalfest recorridos hasta ahora. !!Nos vemos el próximo año en el Brutalfest 2000.!!
