JESSIE STRIKES AGAIN!!!
Yet another amazing concert experience, written in her own words...
Hey, everyone! I wanted to write to you about my amazing experience at the Wallflowers' first concert on this tour. As most of you probably know, it began on November 4 in Athens, GA. That's about an hour and a half from where I live, so my friend and I left school early so that we could prepare! (Time out: The weekend beforehand, I had bought a black satin bra and a teddy bear. I decorated the bra with gold stars and put the W logo in the center. It looked FANTASTIC. I also attached a note saying "Jakob, can I have your guitar pick for this? Love, Jessie." On the bear, I made another logo out of a black piece of fabric and gold paint, and it looked exactly like the one I had personally given to Jakob when I met him, 3 months ago. I wrote about that before. I hope you guys remember! Time in. . .) Anyway, we arrived in Athens at around 5:30 P.M., and the concert was scheduled for 8. I was EXTREMELY stressed because I had wanted to arrive at 5, and I was already 30 minutes behind. We drove by the venue (called the Classic Center) and I was horrified to see people already lined up in front of the gate. My mom and my friend insisted that they were probably waiting for tickets, but I didn't believe them. I was the only one who wanted to get dropped off, and I finally persuaded my mom to stop the car. My friend and I got out, and I cut in front of some people in line, but they didn't seem to care!! So we sat there for about an hour and a half until the gates opened, and then they frisked us (I couldn't believe that!) and I walked as quickly as I could (They said if you ran, they would throw you out) to the NEXT gate, where we stood for another 10 minutes. I was getting worried because there were about 20 people in line in front of us, and I HAD to be in the front row to get the best view and to be able to successfully throw my items onstage! Well, we finally entered the auditorium, and I ran (I wouldn't have let them throw me out, anyway!) to the stage. I wasn't directly in the middle, but I was only a little to the side, which turned out to be right in front of Greg. Then we waited around for an hour, and then the opening band came onstage, but I have no idea who they were because they didn't even say their name, and there had been no publicity about them whatsoever on the radio.
My stomach was in a complete knot as I waited for the absolute best band in the world to come onstage. When they FINALLY did, this girl next to me and I screamed louder than anyone. There's no way I can describe how exciting it was, so I won't even try. Those of you who have been to a WF concert already know how much fun it is and how great the Wallflowers are live, and they definitely lived up to everyone's expectations. Jakob was VERY friendly to the crowd, talking in between almost every song. He looked at me quite a bit, which I was of course THRILLED about! Here's the song order: "Ashes to Ashes," "Angel on My Bike," "One Headlight," "Bleeders," "Three Marlenas," "6th Avenue Heartache," "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," "God Don't Make Lonely Girls," "Josephine," "Laughing Out Loud," "Take a Good Look," (encore here) "Invisible City," "The Difference," and that one about the Cadillac. Sorry, I don't know what it's called! That one called "Take a Good Look" is probably a mystery to you. It's a NEW one, and Jakob said we were the first ones to hear it and that the band had "high hopes" for it! I THOUGHT IT WAS FABULOUS!! It just made me wish more and more for a new CD to come out!
I threw the bra onstage right after "6th Avenue Heartache," and Jakob read the note about the pick. He said "sure" really quietly and then walked over and handed it right to me. I noticed that his hands were cold. I was so amazed! The pick is dark red with little yellow flecks in it, and the W logo is in gold in the center, with a star in the top left hand portion of the surrounding circle. On the back, it says "Captain Midnight."
A few songs after that, Jakob walked back to the drums where he had lain the bra down. He picked it up again, to my delight, and said that he hadn't noticed the stars on it. He said that I was very "determined" and that "it took a lot of thought." He showed it to the audience, and they all started screaming, especially me! He noticed the logo after he had already shown the audience, so he showed it to Greg instead. He looked pleased!!
I threw the teddy bear at the very end of the concert, which I later realized was pretty stupid because then I couldn't see Jakob's reaction. When I threw it, Mike was the one who saw it, and he smiled at it, picked it up, and handed it to Jakob, who walked offstage with it in his hand. I had even made a little hat for it and everything! It was so cute! I hope he liked it.
That was my second favorite concert, next to the time when I went backstage and met Jakob and Mario. I don't think anything will top that!! Feel free to e-mail me with questions or comments!
The following is Jessie's previous concert experience...
The following was written by the lucky girl herself...
Yes, that's right, folks: I met the one and only Jakob Dylan backstage at a concert! And for all of you who fear that maybe Jakob is as rude as his father, let me personally be the one to put your anxieties to rest. He was so incredibly sweet and affectionate to all of the people backstage; he acted as though he had known us for years. I spoke to him, got his autograph, got our picture taken, and actually GAVE him something!! See, it was all part of a contest sponsored by my radio station. If you wore clothing that featured the station logo, you had an opportunity to meet the Wallflowers backstage. Of course, I had to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime chance; my friend and I made a huge 10-foot banner, shirts with the logo (Yes, with fabric and everything!), and patches to pin on our jeans. To my delight, one of the DJs handed us genuine backstage passes!! Well, I ended up ripping off one of my patches that had a big Wallflowers logo on it (You know, like the one on the CD cover?) and giving it to Jakob. He looked like he really liked it. Oh, and for all you Mario fans, I met him, too, although he wasn't as friendly as Jakob. Anyway, I wanted to tell all of you that I'm willing to answer any questions you might have, from someone who KNOWS! Meeting them was absolutely the best moment of my life, and I want to share it with all of you, the FANS!! So feel free to e-mail me! I'll try to get back to you all as soon as possible!!
