Officer Harold Lowe had worked on the Belgic and Tropic before signing up with White Star. He didn't know many of the other officers aboard Titanic. He was only 29 and served aboard as 5th officer.
When Titanic hit the iceberg, he was sleeping in his cabin. He got dressed and came up on deck with a pistol. He figured something must've been wrong but he didn't quite know what. He assisted Murdoch and Moody on deck with helping women and children into the lifeboats. Lowe manned lifeboat 14. He and the people in the boat rowed a bit out from Titanic. When the Titanic was completely down all the way, he had to wait and listen to the screams of the 1500 in the water. When the screams and cries died down, he attached lifeboat 14 to 12, 10, and a collapsible. He took all the people from his boat and got them into the others. He and a few volunteers went back to the mass of people in the water to find survirors.
He looked all around and he and a few others rescued 4 people from the water. Unfortunetly, one of them died in the boat. But Lowe's heroism and boldness to go back for people should be commended as a great act because he made the effort to save lives.
