The bond in Sinking Cove in Franklin County, Tennessee hits you the minute you come around the curve into the grassy valley full of beautiful sinkholes. Normally I would not call a sinkhole anything but a hazard, but if you have been there, you know what I mean. My husband's oldest relative in Tennessee migrated to this area in 1792. Here he bore a son and a daughter whose spirits still visit this area of great beauty. The Big Crow Creek flows swiftly through and all is peaceful, and inviting. Possibly only the spiritual could feel this, but then I again I believe anyone would, if they enter with an open heart.
We came to this spot looking for two things, the graves of our ancestors(for geneology) and photos of spirits. And we had an experience I would not trade for all the money in the world. Just as we entered the cove, a man spoke to me from the right side of the car. He introduced himself as Jonathan. Now you have to remember that I did not know the names of the people we were looking for. I have been too busy pecking on this typewriter and have not had time to concentrate on those points. And I was listening not looking at the sheet of paper beside me. He said he was shot in the elbow. He said they moved off the mountain and I got the sense that it had something to do with that wound. I told him I was looking for Samuel Gist. He said, He's dead. I said I know it. You are too! He didn't say anything. Then I heard another voice. An old man. He said he was Samuel. He said we would not find his grave. I did not tell my husband that. He has his heart set on finding a grave he will never find. But we found Samuel and his son. Before we left home that morning we had asked the Lord to help us find Samuel Gist. And we had tons of help from the little old man in a grocery, who told us where to look. I am going back as soon as possible. This is not over. It never can be. I found a pleasant mistreated soul, who really wants to talk. Look for pics of this visit on April 12th. See ya!
