To whom shall we go to find eternal life? Moses? The Prophets? Or, Jesus Christ? The Bible says plainly, "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son...." (Hebrews 1:1-2). On the mount of transfiguration, Jesus talked with Moses and Elijah. When Peter saw this, he suggested building three tabernacles: one for the Lord, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. "While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased; hear ye Him." (Matthew 17:1-5). Who are we to hear? Moses? Elijah (the prophets)? Or Jesus Christ? The answer: Jesus! Jesus has all authority (Matthew 28:18). He has the words of eternal life (John 6:67-68). He is the only way to the Father (John 14:6). His gospel is God's only means of saving people (Romans 1:16). It is by His word that men shall be judged (John 12:48). Yet, despite such plain teaching, we are constantly bombarded by many who seek to force the law of Moses on us as a spiritual guide. Why look to Moses when it is Jesus who has the words of eternal life? The truth of the matter is, the law of Moses was done away with. It was taken out of the way and nailed to the cross (Hebrews 10:9-10; Colossians 2:14). It was superseded by a new and better law: the law of Christ (Hebrews 8:6-13).
It is not Moses and the old law we must listen to, but it is Jesus Christ and His Gospel we must hear, "...This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased; hear ye Him."
