Roan Mountain
View on high from Carters Gap on the Appalachian Trail that leads to Roan Mountain, the 4th highest mountain East of the Mississippi River, and it is the 3rd highest mountain in Tennessee. Roan Mountain is located in Carter Co., TN in the far Eastern part of the state.
From here you can see North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee.

Views from Carters Gap can only be described as wonderful! It is a short hike up the mountain to the nob of the Carters Gap with breath taking views from all sides. And a great view of Roan Mountain across the highway.
Hiking the trail
Shown in this photo is my mom Daisy taking a break a top the mountain nob of Carters Gap along the Appalachian Trail.
Roan Mountain has an elevation of 6,285 ft., and hosts the Rhododendron Festival in early June and has plenty to do at the Roan Mountain State Park with great fireworks July 4, camping, hiking, swimming, and trout stream.
