Here we are out in the woods. John and I often come down here. We are rarely alone otherwise. We also like to go down to the lake. Have you seen it lately? It is so absolutely beautiful. John and I were there this afternoon. He informed me that he is going to volunteer in the war. I didn't want him to, of course. Luckily, he is fighting on the union side- against slavery. I don't know what would happen to him if he were to meet up with someone he knows... I just pray he is going to be safe. He is leaving this morning. I shall meet with him. To say goodbye. I know it is only a matter of time...
