The early history of how the current forum came about is lost to the annals of time... simply because no one was around to remember it.
The earliest version of the forum appeared on the Prodigy Classic message boards at some time in the mid to late 1990s. There, it thrived as a training facility, but it also had less of a focus on character development and much of the management referred to it as a "club".
When the Classic version of Prodigy vanished completely sometime in the late 90s or early in 2000, JEDI moved to its new home on Delphi Forums. Still, controversy began to plague to club, along with vanishing moderators. Frustrated, PrimusLune, then writing as Jedi Knight Amber Jolean, moved the forum to a new home on Delphi, although tensions seemed to grow worse while their membership dwindled.
In March of 2003, due to internal arguments, she opened a new forum in order to get away from it, but, besides a few out of character posts, it wasn't used as most members remained at New Jedi Academy.
After struggling to keep NJA alive for a few more months, the membership dwindled to nothing without any posts for months at a time, and in early summer of 2005, and using the forum she'd already opened but never used, she revitalized a new version... much different than the original JEDI from which she had come.
Jedi: the Final Fantasy was born as a role playing game, first and foremost, with less of an intent on training. And while things weren't without controversy, as they never are on the Internet, the group has managed to continue despite the odds.
