It is important that you and I educate our members with the best information possible through the Union. Your response to this web site with ideas and suggestions is encouraged. Give us your best shot!

CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS DELAYED!

The Labor Agreement Contract between First Transit, Inc. and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1755 expires November 30, 2005. We sent several letters to First Transit District General Manager, Roger K. Chapin, with request for dates and times and have not received a reply in writing. First Transit was cognizant of the decertification attempt and decided to "play their hand" and wait for the outcome of the decert attempt to see if your local will still be in existence or voted out.

A decertification filing through the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) was submitted on September 20, 2005 and presented to ATU Local 1755 on September 21, 2005.We in turn through the assistance of the International, who sent experienced International representatives, Gary Mauer and Ray Rivera from Atlanta, Georgia, to investigate and submit our first set of unfair labor practice (ULP) charges against First Transit, Inc. on September 22, 2005. The filing stopped the decertification attempt until the NLRB completes their investigation of the charges submitted by this local against First Transit. The second set of charges was filed eight days later.

Our representative, International Vice President Kenneth Kirk, has attempted to coordinate dates and times with First Transit's representative, Paul Avery, but to no avail.

As your President I am challenging you to ask Mr. Chapin why is he deliberately delaying the negotiations and when his answer is not to your satisfaction tell him to get it in gear and quit jerking around the "backbone" of this company. Without the "backbone" those fare boxes would surely be empty and we know that definitely is not "simply the best" idea when Chapin's future is dependant upon YOU!
