APRIL

2002

Welcome to the April issue of WEATHERFUN's Newsletter.

Words From Jerry
Welcome Weatherfun members to the April Newsletter.
Well, winter is now officially over. Yes, it was a Jerry type of winter with very little snow in the Northeast. But, was that good? Well, even me, who hates snow, has to say that precipitationwise, it was not good. Here in Rhode Island we are under a Drought Watch Advisory. For the first time in several month's March was above normal in precipitation. The question is will this pattern continue through April? Reservoirs in my area are well below normal. In order for the up coming growing season to be a good one, we need the rain, and we need it now. I know I am looking forward to having a good garden this year, and that can only happen if we get the rain, and get it now.

Folks this is your newsletter, and for it to be successful we need your help. Please contribute to your Weatherfun Newsletter.

March's Weather
  • The first weekend of March came in like a lion in many parts of the country. A strong storm moved up from Texas into the Great Lakes bringing much needed rain to the East Coast and snow to the upper Mississippi River Valley. Temperatures dropped to some of the lowest of the Winter, and below zero for the first time.
  • The first part of March continued active with snow, rain, and even some severe weather.
  • There were reports that El Nino would be warming through early 2003, which would have a major effect on the Hurricane Season and US weather in general.
  • The last half of March remained active, but with no major storms.
