Part I: My Dream- I had joined the army. I was the youngest one there and there was one other girl whose face I never saw. There were about 5 guys with us. We were training in the forest, a pine forest. We had on black jackets, all except for me. I had on a dark brown bombers jacket. Suddenly, this bad guy appeared and he had this remote controlled gun. It was about the size of my fist and had two barrels, small caliber. The gun started shooting at us and we ran. Somehow, we got separated as we ran, and I was in the lead of two guys. The one right behind me was really cute, and I got the feeling that I knew him very well, but I didn’t recognize his face. The man trailing us was plain, but nice, he only felt like an acquaintance. As we were running, I looked back and somehow I was running backwards. I could see 360 degrees around. I saw the gun coming and yelled at the guy in the back to watch out, but he got shot and went down. We kept running, and I saw the gun again. Before I could scream, the gun shot the cute guy in the shoulder. He grabbed his arm and kept running. We went by a big log and I saw that the gun had hid behind it. I yelled jump, and I did. The gun went off before the cute guy could jump and he got shot in the ankle. I grabbed him and we kept running. Somehow, we got back to base. The wounds weren’t bad because the gun was so small. We ended up in the locker room. There were a bunch of guys and that one girl. It seemed that no one had died. I was looking into my assigned locker, but mistakenly looked into the one next to mine. It was filled with jewelry. The cute guy said that the man who owned the locker sold jewelry. I smiled and pointed to a necklace. “Oh! That’s pretty! I think I’ll try it on.” He freaked for a minute because the jewelry guy was mean and he would beat up anyone who messed with his stuff. He got ready to stop me when I grinned at him. He gave me a look and said, “You’re just messing with me, aren’t you?” “Yep.” I said. We both smiled, and he sat down next to me and put his arm around me. We just sat there. Part II: Manifest Content- The gun could symbolize a threat or danger. The difference in jackets could show the difference between myself and the others, or serve to make me stand out above the rest, like putting a main character in red. The log could symbolize an obstacle with hidden dangers. The locker room could symbolize my brain, thoughts being compartmentalized and hidden until discovered. The jewelry could be forbidden fruit, or to go with the brain theory, seductive but deadly thoughts. Part III: Meaning- The ability to see in all directions and the fact that I always saw the gun first could symbolize my ability to see problems that others don’t. My leaving behind of the plain guy symbolizes the ability to sacrifice nonessentials for the greater good. My inability to leave the cute guy behind symbolizes the urge for self-sacrifice in emotional concerns. The fact that no one died symbolizes my assured good outcome in whatever path I choose, even though I may run into a few problems. The almost acceptance of the necklace is the urge to rebel and give into temptation, but the ending of the dream gave reward for resisting. I feel that the dream had a dual meaning. The first is the symbolism of the difficulties inherent in finding the match God intended, with the various dangers illustrating the emotional turmoil associated with marriage. The second is more biblical. The temptations and dangers of this world can be overcome by trusting in Him and His ability to see all outcomes, and the need to help others to trust in Him also. The jewelry, as I said earlier, is sinful thoughts that try to tempt you away from God. The resistance of the temptation leads to His protection and love, instead of correction.
