The Timeless Battle...

Good and Evil

The Enigmatic Abyss  |   The Human Dream  |   Quotes  |   About Me

Have you ever had those thoughts? Like, is any of this for real? Or not? Heaven, Hell, life, death, life after death. Any one of those infinite unexplainable things. Or how about the existence of a soul? Do we all have an inner being that carries on after our time expires? I mean there has to be something doesn't there? Death can't be the end can it? there must be soemthing afterwords. But that means that, if souls exist, and each of us has one, then does that mean that a soul can be evil? Or good? Maybe this thing of Good verus Evil really does exist. Yeah it exists in our stories, movies, books, anything our mind can conceive. But what about in life? Right now, this very second, next to you, above you, behind you, a mile from you, a thousand miles from you? Does this neverending epic battle of time exist? Could it be we're all just pawns in the multitude that is our world? Maybe. Or maybe we're the biggest players. Maybe we're the warriors who determine the fate of time. Who decide which wins. Good? Or Evil?
We have thousands upon thousands of stories that show this clash. In most, the Good guys win. In others, the Bad do. As humans we always root for the Good guys. The honorable heroic people who do superhuman deeds to look death in the face, and overcome the odds to win one for the team. One of my favorite stories of this, isn't in a book or movie. But a video game. The game title is "Final Fantasy VII". Just to give you a quick run down of how the story works I'll try to make my summary as short as possible.
When you start, your a young man named Cloud. He's a mercenary. An ex-soldier. He's helping a band of rebels, called 'Avalanche'. They are waging their own war against a tremendous mega-corporation who runs everything. They are using (remember it's a fantasy game) the blood of the planet for power. What Avalanche believes is that Shinra(the mega-corp) is going to end up killing the planet. Anyway, Cloud helps them through various parts, and soon him, and all the people he's met along the way end up in the President of the companys office; only to find a large sword in his back. Cloud says that only one man could weild that sword, and he desappered 5 years ago. He was assumed dead. The mans name was Sephiroth. As the game continues you slowly find that the past 5 years to Cloud are very cloudy and confused, he believed that his home town had been burnt down. But when he gets there, it's not. Then when the climax, well one of the climaxes, of the game hits one of the people very close to Cloud is killed by, none other than, Sephiroth. Cloud ends up going on a journey to find his old partner(they were partners in the last war when Cloud was only 17, right before Sephiroth disappered).
The game contiues on. You find out things that you would have never thought possible. And this is turning into an advertisment. This game is incredibly complecated to explain, so I'll save you my speal on this being, possibly, the greatest story of all time, and let you play it for yourself. Just let me say, that in the end, it's a Good verus Evil battle. It explains alot, in my mind anyway, and it shows how the battle is never really won, and never really lost. I mean, yes, personl battels are won. In the end Cloud defeats Sephiroth. He defeats his evil. He wins his war.
And then that brings up another thing. Maybe Good vs Evil isn't a timeless battle at all. Maybe it's a battle that everyone fights for themselves. Maybe it's a war that takes place in everyones heart. And so, in turn it never really ends. It might for you, me, and every other living person on the planet, but what happens to the babies born tomorrow, the next day, the next million years? They would have to fight their own battles. And so the story starts all over again.
Or if your religious, then you might have a whole different beliefe on this kind of battle. God vs Satan. Heaven vs Hell. And I think this is what is most accepted as definition of Good vs Evil. The ultimate power above, against the ultimate evil below. Doesn't it make you wonder which is which? What I've seen, in the majority of the stories I've read, is that, A.)Evil has the superior strength, while B.)Good has a stronger heart, and will. I mean this is what pretty much goes on in every story isn't it?
It's just something to think about. As is all of life. You've got to consider all sides, don't you? It all just depends on what kind of person you are. Most of us probably believe we're on the Good side. Maybe there are a few people out there who believe they work for the Bad guys. And are proud of it. Maybe there's some Good guys, who don't know they're actually Bad. Or maybe this is all just another thing we've been lead to believe, when in reality, there is no such thing. Maybe our reality, is our dreams. And our dreams are just a peak into the reality that we actually live in. A reality where there are designated sides. A reality where there is an epic battle consitently being fought. A reality where our souls are exposed to the world, and our own battles are won and lost. Whatever it is you believe, stick with it. Fight for it. And never look back. Maybe you're Good. Maybe you're Bad. Maybe we're both. Whichever it is, fight for that side. Fight for what your heart tells you. And never look back.
