Summary: “You are not ALLOWED to love!” Obi-wan hissed fiercely. “Possession and attachment are forbidden and will only result in your expulsion from the Jedi Order!” “Would you miss me?” Anakin asked suddenly.

“Anakin?”

“Anakin.”

“Anakin!”

Anakin jolted out of his reverie, hastily turning from the view to face his master. “I’m sorry Master, I couldn’t hear you from outside the balcony.”

"I’ve been right next to you for the past ten minutes.” Obi-wan flashed his padawan a disapproving look.

Anakin flushed. “Oh. Uh I didn’t hear you come out.”

“I’ve been talking to you all this time!”

His young padawan’s mouth fell open as he racked his brain for an excuse. “Oh. Yeah! Sure, I mean, I know that…”

“Anakin Skywalker…” Obi-wan’s serious eyes narrowed warningly as his padawan sighed with irritation. “Here we go again. Be mindful of your thoughts Anakin, they betray you.” He mimicked his master. “Your commitment to the Jedi order is not easily broken. Your mind is overwhelmed with thoughts of Padme, this can only be detrimental to your training,” Anakin’s voice rose as his annoyance grew. “She is a senator and not to be trusted, neither are my feelings-”

“Anakin-”

“Are my feelings important to you, Master?”

“That is NOT the issue here.” Obi-wan ground out, trying to maintain his calm.

“I think it is!” Anakin shot back. “The woman I love-”

“You are not ALLOWED to love!” Obi-wan hissed fiercely. “Possession and attachment are forbidden and will only result in your expulsion from the Jedi Order!”

“Would you miss me?” Anakin asked suddenly.

Obi-wan covered his face with his hands. “Anakin, you’re driving me CRAZY. Will you PLEASE attempt tostay focused for once-”

“I am. Would.You. Miss. Me.” He stared hard into Obi-wan’s eyes as his master suddenly became silent.“Hmm?” He gazed accusingly into the twin blue orbs, still receiving no reply from the unexpectedly quiet Jedi master. “Would you miss YOUR padawan. YOUR young one. YOUR Annie.” Obi-wan looked away, refusing to make a sound. “Have you grown attached to me master?” Anakin asked quietly. “I’ve grown attached to you. Why do things have to be any different with Padme? I loveyou both. Or am I not allowed to love you either?”

Obi-wan held up his hand wearily. “Anakin. Don’t complicate matters any further.”

Anakin laughed incredulously. “I’m complicating matters? I’m a simple man, Master. I love Padme, we should be together. I love you, I wish you could give me your blessing as any master should.”

Obi-wan breathed deeply. “In truth, so do I, Padawan.” He gave a sad little smile. “But there are wheels within wheels. It seems nothing is ever simple for people like us.”

“Well make it simple!”

“Anakin!” Obi-wan rebuked him, the stern Jedi master once more. “Don’t forget your place.”

“How could I?” Anakin spat bitterly, and Obi-wan flinched as his apprentice brushed past him roughly.

/Padawan, I do love-/

“Be mindful of your thoughts, Master.” Anakin regarded him coldly before going inside. “They betray you.Feelings are misguided and misleading, and when you get left behind, you’ll find that without them, you can still eat, train, and function like a Jedi.”

His master closed his eyes.
