Several forms of contraception were
around during that time, including, condoms, vaginal suppositories, coitus interruptus (pulling out) and plants as a birth control. Condoms were made
from animals’ skins and intestines and then later with linens. Vaginal
suppositories were made out of everything from ground dates and honey to cow and
crocodile dung. Pulling out was the same then as it is now, with about the
same results. Plants were used as birth control, and were so well used
that today most are extinct. If these didn’t work, women tried
jumping up and down, douches made of some of the same stuff as suppositories and
sneezing while on their knees.
