The Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) Program was founded in 1993 at Northeastern University. Its central focus is to send student-athletes and student-leaders out into the community to raise awareness about men’s violence against women. This is done through the sharing of statistics (i.e. one in six college women reported being the victim of rape or attempted rape in the preceding year-Rape Treatment Center, Santa Monica Hospital Medical Center, 1990), a discussion of facts and working definitions, and through the presentation of selected scenarios.

The Taunton High School MVP program sends groups of normally 6-10 students to middle school and 9th grade classes. Our discussions are tailored to the age level being presented to-for the most part, mature topics are reserved for mature audiences. However, the issue of men’s violence against women is a serious problem in today’s society, and must be addressed throughout the middle school level. Please, don’t pass up on this opportunity for your students…our program can be a great resource for them on a topic usually either avoided or not covered in depth at their age level. If you have any further questions, you can contact Taunton High’s MVP coordinator Deb Brown at 508-***-****.
