Chapter Twenty-Six
Cracks In The Floor

Everyone in the group that was not lost at the moment, sat gloomily in the entrance area, hoping and praying that the rest of their friends were not in too much danger. Nick sat there, silently cursing himself that this was all his fault for the others getting lost, if he had not been knocked out like that....

Nick shook his head and thought, “Stop it! “The Game” would have been played on them any ways even if you hadn’t gotten lost.”

He looked around at everyone else and wondered what they were thinking. They all looked exhausted and stressed out about everything that was happening. The night was dragging on longer than anyone expected and they all just wanted to get out of this “Game.”

“Will I ever be glad when this night is finally over and we’ll never have to deal with this again,” Nick thought.

All of a sudden, the sound of the clock chiming broke through the silence, making them all jump. It was now 1 AM.

“Damnit! Could this night go any damn slower!?” AJ yelled out.

“He’s right. Howie, Chris, and Joey have now been gone for an hour while we just sit here. Isn’t there anything we can do?” Lance said, looking at the others.

Kevin sighed, not knowing how to respond. He desperately wanted to go look for his friends but the possibility of more people getting lost was to great and he wanted the rest to avoid playing “The Game” for as long as possible.

“They’re smart. They’ll get out of it, I’m sure,” Kevin finally said firmly.

“I just hope to God that they are ok,” Emily responded.

Another silence fell among the group and they all sat there thinking about what still lay ahead if them with “The Game.” Kevin, Laura, AJ, Lance, and JC were the most worried since they had not played “The Game” yet.

Just then, a very faint rumbling noise was heard. Teri looked up and stared around the room. No one else looked up so she guessed she had imagined it and thought nothing of it. Then it came again, a little louder this time. It was coming from the ground beneath them, a deep rumbling noise. This time, they all heard it. The rumbling noise grew steadily louder and the house began to shake from it.

“What the hell is going on?” JC yelled over the noise.

It sounded like it was getting closer and closer. Finally, a crack began to form across the floor. They all shot up from where they were sitting only to fall back down from the increased shaking of the floor beneath them.

“Shit, the damn house is gonna cave right in on us,” Lance yelled.

The crack in the floor grew and the floor started to separate into two pieces. The crack started to come towards them as if knowing they were there. Laura had been sitting more towards the middle of the room where the crack started and was now fearful of falling in. All of a sudden another crack formed underneath her and she screamed as it separated and she started to fall in. Her hands grabbed onto the jagged edge of the floor and she clung on for dear life.

“Help!” she screamed out. Laura slipped as another rumble rocked the house, cutting her hands on the rough edge.

“Hang on Laura!” Emily yelled back. Emily and the others had managed to get to the stairs and were now trying to think of a way to get Laura there too.

“Now what are we suppose to do?” Justin cried out.

Before the others could respond to him, the house shook violently one last time and Laura lost her grip on the edge. She fell into a black pit, thinking the whole time that she was finally going to die. The crack closed up swiftly and the rumbling immediately stopped.

Everyone stared in shock around the room, it looked like nothing had just happened. Except, Laura was no where to be found. She was now going to have to play her part of “The Game.”
