Chapter Twenty-Four
Caught In The Void
* * * * * * * * * * * *
Chris found himself standing in the middle of pure blackness after the library
lights had gone out. He turned around several times but all he saw was black.
“Where the hell am I?” he thought.
Chris slowly started walking and as he was walking he finally realized where he
was.
“Oh God....I think I’m in some kind of void or something,” he said aloud.
“Ughh...why is this happening to us? We didn’t deserve this.”
Chris continued walking, his eyes darting back and forth. Waiting for something
to pop up and grab him. As Chris was walking, out of the corner of his eye, he
caught some movement among the blackness. He snapped his head in the
direction of it but saw nothing. Chris caught another movement with his eye and
spun around in it’s direction.
“Who’s there?” he called out.
Silence was his answer. Chris stood nervously in the black void, waiting and
listening. He heard a noise behind him and turned around to see a shadowy
figure a few feet away from him. Chris screamed and broke out in a run. As he
was running he saw more shadowy figures advancing from all directions. They
were calling out, “No escape...no escape....”
Chris ran blindly through the blackness, his chest feeling like it would burst. His
breath came in ragged and short, his legs felt numb from running. No matter
how fast he ran, the shadowy figures still remained there. Chris skidded to a stop
when one jumped in front of him. He stared at the figure in horror, not believing
what he was seeing.
“Justin?” he said.
The figure that stood before him looked exactly like Justin. He appeared to be
only a shadow of him though. His eyes looked black and hollow. He stared at
Chris with pain and defeat in his eyes. The figure finally spoke.
“Lose “The Game” and this is what becomes of you,” sadness evident in the
voice.
“No....we haven’t lost yet....” Chris said.
“No...not yet.” The figure got an evil smile on it’s face and Chris saw more
shadowy figures moving in closer and closer.
“I suggest you run....” the figure before him said, trailing off.
Chris stood there in shock for a second before he took off. The shadowy figures
chased after him, still chanting, “No escape...no escape...” It continued to get
louder and louder.
Chris ran as fast as he could, desperately hoping that something would come
and save him. The black void was all that lay before him and more and more
shadowy figures were appearing out of it.
Then Chris caught sight of something silver a little ways up. He ran towards it,
praying that it was an escape out of the hell that he was in. As he got closer he
realized it was a metal door with a large latch attached to it in the middle. Chris
stopped in front of it, the shadowy figures almost on top of him, and grabbed
the handle and attempted to yank it open. The door stuck for a second.
“Oh God...please no...please open up...don’t let me die this way,” he pleaded
quietly.
Chris gave the latch another sharp tug and the door swung open, a cold blast hit
him and the void around him disappeared, the screams of the shadowy figures
echoing around him.
Chris bent forward breathing hard and shivered slightly from the coldness of the
room. He looked around and saw that it looked like every other room in the
place. His attention went to the floor and he gasped in shock and horror from
what he saw.
“Oh my God, Joey?”
