Illusion

Emily gasped as she was pulled through the door and heard it lock shut. “Uh oh...I guess it’s my turn to play the game. Ohhh...I really don’t want to do this,” she thought.

A long hallway lay before. It’s was a little different from the other halls though. It had a carpeted floor and stone walls. Torches, instead of candles, lined the wall and, there were no doors except for the one on the other side of the hall. Emily slowly started walking down the hall when she noticed something weird about the wall. That’s when she noticed that bloody handprints were on the wall. The way they were placed it looked like the person was staggering. Emily backed up in shock and disgust.

“Damn, I want out of here. This is some creepy shit going on,” she thought.

That’s when she looked at the floor and saw bloody footprints on the floor and as she looked at them she saw more slowly appearing. She turned to looked at the wall again and saw more handprints appearing coming towards her. Emily’s eyes widened and she screamed when she saw them. She backed up until she was flat against the door she had come through. The footsteps stopped in front of her and Emily waited in suspense for what was going to happen. Slowly a person appeared in front of her and she screamed again when she saw what it was.

A man covered in blood stood before her. He was mangled all over. Slash marks were across his chest and face and he had rope burns around his neck, wrists, and ankles. He stared at Emily with pleading eyes as if to ask for help before he broke into an evil smile. He then said, “Have fun finishing the Game!”

Emily screamed again as she fell through the floor into the darkness of the house. She groaned as she landed on a hard floor. ‘Ughh...this absolutely sucks,” she muttered.

She looked around and that’s when she realized she was on the first floor again. “Oh, great! Maybe everyone else is down here too,” she thought.

Emily ran out of the room she was in and started looking for everyone else. She ran to the entrance hall and saw everyone sitting on the floor, looking extremely depressed.

“Guys!” she yelled out when she saw them.

They looked up in shock when they saw her. “Emily!” Laura cried out when she saw her. She ran over to her and gave Emily a big hug.

“I thought I’d never find you!” She looked over at everyone else and saw some of them missing. “Hey, where are the others?”

“I wish I could say they were dead,” Laura said.

“Huh? What are you talking about?” Emily asked looking back at Laura.

She screamed when she looked at Laura. Her eyes were glowing and she started backing up. The entrance room disappeared and they were now standing in the middle of a room filled with candles. Laura had transformed into the black hooded skeleton.

“What....what are you?” Emily stuttered.

The skeleton laughed. “I’m the one who wants you all dead. What you just experienced there was an illusion. I felt like playing with your mind a little.”

The skeleton transformed again and now Ms. Calhoun was standing there.

“You.....” Emily said quietly, trailing off.

Ms. Calhoun laughed. “Yes, me,” she said, “And like I said before, too bad the others aren’t dead. I wouldn’t have to deal with them anymore.”

“Why are you doing this to us? What did we ever do to you?” Emily demanded.

“You volunteered to play the “Game” as soon as you entered this house. It was only right of me to play it on you. Besides, I liked to see how many of you will actually defeat it. Though I doubt any of you will. No one has ever defeated “The Game” before,” Ms. Calhoun told her.

“Well, we’ll prove you wrong,” Emily said with determination in her voice.

Ms. Calhoun laughed again. “Go ahead and try. You know, I should kill you right now, one less person standing in my way but I’m going to let you live. I want to see how far all of you will go to defeat this.”

With that, Ms. Calhoun disappeared from view. Emily stood there in shock for a while before running out of the room. She had to find everyone else. They just had to defeat “The Game.” Their lives depended on it.
