Chapter Sixteen
Run...Or Die

Teri was still sitting in the middle of the dark hall with no clue as to where she was. The laughter that had come through the hall had scared the shit out of her but she didn’t feel like moving, for fear of what was out there.

“Ugh...I’m getting no where by sitting here,” she thought, “might as well try to get out of here.”

Just as she started to stand up she heard a noise and then something landed next to her, making her jump. Her eyes widened and tried to look through the dark.

“Who....who’s there?” she said softly.

She heard a groan and then a voice. “Teri?”

Teri stood there in shock. “Brian?”

“Ughhh.....yeah...it’s me....” Brian answered her.

“What....where’d you come from?” Teri asked, thoroughly confused.

“Umm.....it’s a long story. What happened to you though?”

“I fell into some room with a bunch of skeletons and blood everywhere and then fell into the middle of this hall here. I have no clue where we are though,” she answered.

“Great. I love being stuck in the middle of a dark hall.”

Then they both heard a noise further up the hall. The sound of footsteps could be heard slowly walking towards them. They both froze, not wanting to be heard. The footsteps got closer then they stopped. Then a faint light appeared a little ways down the hall.

“Uhhh...what is that?” Teri whispered. “It better not be that guy that was hung again.”

The two watched as the light started to slowly move towards them. Teri inched over to where Brian was sitting. She kind of hid herself behind him, fearful for what was going to happen. The light kept coming closer and closer to them and they were finally able to see what it was.

“What the hell.....” Brian said, his voice trailing off.

“.....are you doing here?” Teri finished.

The person was Ms. Calhoun and she was holding a candle, which had made the light. She stopped in front of the two of them and seemed confused when she saw them there.

“What are you two doing on the third floor? You shouldn’t be up here,” Ms. Calhoun told them.

“What are you doing here is the question. Don’t give us any crap, we know you’re in on this Game. Why the hell are you doing this to us?” Teri yelled at her.

“Teri.....” Brian said in a warning voice, “I wouldn’t say anything.”

“Better listen to your friend here bitch. At least he knows what’s good for him,” Ms. Calhoun said with a cold laugh.

“How dare you call me a bitch....I should kill you right now for putting us into this mess,” Teri yelled, her anger taking over.

“I’d like to see you try,” Ms. Calhoun said in a low voice.

Right then, a wind blew through the hall again and Ms. Calhoun changed into the cloaked figure that Brian had seen before. It started to laugh a really weird laugh and they both backed up against the wall. It lowered it’s hood and Teri screamed when she saw the skeleton head with the glowing eyes. The skeleton pulled a long, shiny dagger out from it’s cloak and started to advance towards them.

“I never got around to killing that other friend of yours,” the skeleton said in a menacing voice, “so I guess I can just kill both of you to make up for it. I’ll get to the others later.”

Brian grabbed Teri’s hand before he yelled out, “RUN!!!”

The two of them took off down the hall with the skeleton close behind them, laughing. Blood was starting to pour down the walls of the hallway, filling up the floor, making it harder for the two of them to run.

The both skidded to a stop when they noticed the rest of the floor was gone. Blackness lay below them now and the blood from the walls was starting to pour over the side.

“Oh God...what do we do?” Teri cried out in panic.

Brian looked behind them to see the skeleton almost on top of them. “We gotta jump....or we’ll die.”

“Shit.....I dunno....” Teri said, completely scared.

“Just jump,” Brian yelled at her. And with that the two of them jumped from the edge and started to fall into the blackness, having no clue where they’d end up.

......................

Joey and AJ had both gone and gotten flashlights out of their rooms since they were going to be checking out the second floor. Neither wanted to be looking around there too much since they knew both Teri and Justin had seen something up there. Both were standing in the main hallway looking at all four halls leading off of it, trying to figure out which one to venture into first.

“Well...” Joey started, “we know that both Justin and Teri saw something in the second and fourth halls so....why don’t we look in the third one.”

AJ nodded. “Yeah, I’m not too keen on seeing what they saw. Maybe there’s nothing down the third hall, we might be in luck,” he said, trying to sound hopeful.

They slowly started walking into the third hall, flashing the flashlights everywhere to catch even just the slightest odd thing. They saw nothing but a blank hallway that looked exactly like the one they had been staying in, only darker.

After walking for about a half hour, both Joey and AJ were getting tired of walking down the never ending hallway. Joey finally spoke. “Ughhh...why don’t we go back? There’s nothing down here but a never ending row of doors.”

AJ was unsure because he wanted to know where Nick was but thought that he might have been found by the others already. “Yeah, that’s probably a good idea. Let’s go.”

They turned around and had just started walking back down the hall when all of a sudden the few candles around them went out and they were plunged into darkness. They both stopped short and listened for any weird noises. Then they both heard it. A clanking noise was coming from behind them.

“Aww....shit....” was all AJ was able to say very quietly.

Neither wanted to turn around but curiosity overtook them and they slowly turned around. There standing in the middle of the hallway, a little ways away from them were three skeletons with metal holds around their hands and feet and chains dangling from the holds. Blood slowly dripped from where the metal holds were, showing that when they had been alive, they had bled there.

Joey and AJ were too shocked to do anything but stare at them. That’s when they both noticed that each skeleton was holding long knives. Blood was coated on them and was dripping on the floor also. The skeletons slowly started to move towards, their chains making noises on the floor as they walked.

Neither Joey or AJ could move. Both were frozen to the floor as if paralyzed with fear. When the skeletons were about 10 feet away from them, they stopped and the one said, “Your time is up, you just lost the Game.”

AJ and Joey looked at each other and said, “RUN!” They took off down the hall and could tell the skeletons were right behind them because they could still hear the metal running across the floor.

All of a sudden Joey tripped and fell to the floor. AJ stopped short and turned around, the skeletons almost on top of them.

“Go!!” Joey yelled, “Find everyone else!”

AJ didn’t want to leave Joey there all alone to face the skeletons but took off running down the hall. He had to get help, this Game was out of control. They were into killing people already. “I thought we had until sun rises?” he thought to himself as he ran.

Joey looked up at the three skeletons staring down at him menacingly, their knives drawn back ready to throw at him. He got a burst of courage just then and kicked his foot out and the one skeleton fell to the floor. The others seemed surprised by his action and in that moment, Joey leaped off the floor and took off. He didn’t get very far because just then, a door swung open next to him and something pulled him into the pitch black room. Heavy breathing could be heard on the far side of the room and that’s when Joey realized, he was in deep trouble.
