Chapter Ten
No Way Out
* * * * * * * * * * * *
After finding Justin, Brian, Teri, Emily, Chris, JC, and AJ went to go look for the
others. All of them were clearly scared now after seeing what had been written
on the TV. What was going on? They had to find the others and see what they
had found out from Ms. Calhoun. Even though the rest of the group was scared,
Teri and Justin were the most frightened, having both been through more then
the others. They were the only ones who truly believed the place was haunted
though the others were starting to believe it now too.
......................
Kevin, Laura, Lance, Nick, Joey, and Howie were still standing in shock in the
kitchen. All of them were staring at the area where Ms. Calhoun had been just
standing, hardly able to believe what she had just told them.
Nick finally spoke. “Did....did that just happen?” he stuttered.
“Yes, I think,” Kevin said quietly.
“Oh my God,” Laura said.
“Let’s get out of here and find the others, we gotta tell them,” Howie said,
starting to back out of the room.
“Yeah, come on guys,” Lance said.
All of them quickly fled the room and ran towards the entrance room of the
mansion. They got there as soon as everyone else and the two groups halted in
the middle of the room. They quickly saw that the others had found Justin.
“Oh thank God, you found him,” Laura quickly said.
“Guys, we gotta get out of here now,” Emily said, “we just saw something in one
of the rooms and Justin obviously saw something, I’m guessing like Teri did. This
place is haunted and I believe the things that are doing this want us dead.”
Joey hung his head and softly said, “I dunno if we can leave.”
Brian, Justin, JC, Teri, Emily, AJ, and Chris stared at him in shock. “What the hell
are you talking about? What did Ms. Calhoun tell you? That this place isn’t
haunted? Yeah right, like I believe her!” Teri exclaimed.
The others didn’t know what to say. Finally Kevin spoke. “We’re trapped in here.”
“What?!?” Justin, Teri, and Emily said at the same time.
Kevin quickly explained. “We went to see Ms. Calhoun. She told us we’re caught
in some kind of game until the sun rises tomorrow and there is no way out. The
doors have been locked. We’re trapped.”
Justin started backing up slightly, remembering what he had read on the wall in
the basement. “Oh God, that’s what it said on the wall where I was trapped.
‘You still must play The Game. We make the rules.’ It was written in blood down
in the basement.”
Chris’ eyes widened suddenly. “And that’s what it said on the TV. ‘Time to play
The Game. Time to Die!’”
“And that’s what Ms. Calhoun said. We’re now trapped in The Game,” Laura said
quietly.
An eerie silence fell upon the group. What the hell was going on? What was The
Game?
JC started to speak up. “What...what exactly is ‘The Game’?”
Howie shook his head slowly. “We have no idea. All Ms. Calhoun said was that
each one of us will have something thrown at us and the only way to win is to
overcome it. If we don’t, we die. Then....then she disappeared.”
“She what?!” AJ exclaimed.
“She disappeared. She was in on this, she knew this was gonna happen.”
Emily started to repeat what Howie had just said. “Each one of us will be thrown
something.....we know Teri already saw the body of a dead girl and her ghost
down in the second hallway and then Justin saw something......which means that
11 more things are going to happen....oh god.....”
Brian turned to Justin. “We’re all here now. What exactly happened to you?”
Justin looked like he’d rather forget it as soon as possible then repeat the thing
all over again to everyone but he knew he had to tell them. He slowly started to
tell them everything. Everyone stared at him in silent horror while he explained
everything from seeing the fog to the first time, to going back to it, to the
skeletons coming alive, and then falling into the basement and seeing the writing
on the wall. He finally ended and everyone was silent.
“Guys, this is getting way too scary. We gotta see if we can find a way out of
here. I don’t wanna live through 11 more things like that,” Nick said, shivering.
Emily nodded. “Come on guys, maybe Ms. Calhoun was just fooling us. Let’s try
and see if we can get out the door.”
The other quickly agreed and the group slowly started to walk towards the front
the door. They got into the entrance hall and they saw the door standing silently
a few feet in front of them.
“Everyone stay back here. I’ll go check the door,” Kevin said stepping forward.
“Be careful!” Laura said.
Kevin nodded and started to walk towards the door, looking everywhere to see if
something was going to jump out at him and stop him. He got all the way to the
door and sighed slightly, he had made it. Now he just had to see if the door
would open. Just as his hand touched the door knob, something red dripped
onto his finger.
“What the--” Kevin said, drawing his hand back. That’s when he heard Teri
scream and he jumped back from the door and looked up at it.
Written on the door, again in blood, were the words, ‘Do not try to escape it.
You are still in The Game. There is no way out.’
Then the sound of an eerie laughter echoed through the whole house and that’s
when the group realized how much trouble they were in. There really was no
way out.
