JODO KAST

Jodo Kast is an Expanded Universe bounty hunter who dresses in the same armor as Boba Fett in an attempt to make more money, as he is sometimes mistaken for the famous hunter. This figure is a repaint of the POTF2 Boba Fett 3 3/4 figure.

Backstory

As with most of the custom work I have done, I experimented on one of my brother's action figures. His Boba Fett figure was missing his antenna, so I asked if I could paint it like Jodo Kast. I told him they'd probably make a better Fett in the future anyway, which they did, so everything worked out in the end.

Since there was hardly any reference material on such an obscure character (he never appeared in any of the films), I searched the web for pictures of him. It seemed that each source pictured his costume with a different color scheme, so I decided I'd base my paint job on his costume from Boba Fett: Twin Engines of Destruction, a comic that first appeared in the no-longer-in-print Star Wars Galaxy Magazine.

For this custom paint job, I used mainly acrylic paints and some Testor's enamel model paint.

Details

The jetpack
I think Jodo's jetpack turned out to be the highlight of this custom. I based it completely on the color scheme used in Twin Engines of Destruction. The body is a light blue/gray color, with orange highlights. To add that trademark Star Wars lived-in look, I touched up the edges with Testor's silver enamel to simulate chipped off paint.

The shoes
Boba Fett's "bowling shoes" were never painted on the original action figure, so I thought I'd make Jodo's a little more realistic. I used a photo of Boba's to look off of. To give them a dirty look I brushed over them with diluted black paint.
The belt
I know that it doesn't really match Jodo's belt from the comics, but I just painted it brown. For the pockets I "stained" them with diluted dark brown paint to add texture. If I had any Sculpey (or knew how to use it) I'd add some stun bracelets and wiring as shown in the comic.

Comparison

Here are a couple of comparison shots showing the diffences in the two figures. I painted Jodo's armor a dark green color, while Boba's is a light olive color. Jodo's wrist gauntlets, shoulder pads, and knee pads are a darker orange color. I painted Jodo's flightsuit a dark gray to distinquish him from Boba's light blue one. I added much more detail to Jodo's gloves, painting them dark gray with white padding on the fingers. Finally, I painted Jodo's unique symbol on his chestplate and added more detailed scratches on his armor.
