In the Magestic Shenandoah Valley, there were several places on our itinerary.
Skyline Drive runs along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in
Shenandoah National Park. Beautiful scenery in this 105 mile stretch
of road is a highlight of visitors to this area.
Staying in an old rustic cabin was an adjustment for Brian, age 15, and Emmett, age 8. What would they
do with no television, telephone, or video games? Emmett's job was to be the official
recorder of the trip. Each evening he would write about the day's events in a journal.

Brian's assignment was to log in miles and fuel daily, figure out miles
per gallon, and calculate time and distance for the next day's journey.
What a great place to enjoy outdoor activities such as horseback riding...
and watching the deer graze nearby.
OUR NEXT STOP was.....

The Luray Caverns. They are the largest caverns in the Eastern U.S.
It has acres of stalactite and stalagmite formations. It's most popular
feature is the Stalacpipe Organ. It features a normal keyboard but the stalactites
are the pipes spreading over 3.5 underground acres all wired with little rubber mallets.

OUR FINAL STOP IN VIRGINIA WAS THE NATURAL BRIDGE
This geological formation at one time was one of the seven natural wonders of the world. It was surveyed by a young George Washington marked by his initials and was once owned by Thomas Jefferson.
