The Grand Canyon is a steep sided gorge carved by the Colorado River over a six million year period.
It is largely contained in the Grand Canyon National Park which was one of the first national parks in the U.S.

We spent 2 days inside the park at a lodge on the South Rim. What a view!

Unfortunately, due to time constraints, we were unable to hike into the canyon from the South Rim.

However, we did get to the Colorado River by way of the Glen Canyon Dam.
After a short bus ride through the East Rim of the Canyon we reached the Dam.
The bus drove us down through the Dam to the edge of the river.

We took a smooth water rafting trip down the river.
The temperature in the canyon was 117 degrees.
We stopped along the way to take a walk on the beach to see ancient Petroglyphs.

The Colorado River stays a chilly 45 degrees year round.
Bob couldn't resist taking a quick dip!
Recently, in 2007, a glass bottom viewing station called Skywalk was built for an extraordinary view of the Grand Canyon.
