(248 to 206 Million Years Ago) Land
There was a single continent, called Pangaea. You did not have to cross a body of water to get to any other land masses on earth, they were all one large piece.
Climate
The climate was very hot and dry. Pangaea likely had a highly seasonal climate, with very hot summers and cold winters.
Plants
One common plant of the Triassic Period were lycophytes, which were evergreen-like forest-forming trees more than 35 meters tall. Glossopteridales were also a very common seed plant that is now extinct.
Avian (Flying)

Life
The first flying animal developed during the Triassic Period. It was called the Pterosaur. Its wings were covered in skin without feathers, similar to a bat and some had fur. It seems that Pterosaur was also able to walk erect as show in the picture below.
Aquatic (Living in water)
Sauropterygia (“lizard flippers”) is a group of reptiles that lived in the water during the Triassic Period. They were around 7 to 12 meters in length. Their life was very similar to a killer whale’s life is today.

Ichthyosaurs also began to develop during this time. They were giant marine reptiles that resembled dolphins or fish. They were probably around 8 feet long.
Terrestrial (Living on land)
Coelophysis, one of the first dinosaurs, appeared during this time. These creatures were 9.8 feet long and weighed very little. They were probably fast runners because of their light weight. They had a long head, neck and tail and good eye sight. They probably ate smaller reptiles.
Dicynodonts were one of the primary herbivores (plant eaters) of this period. They had a horned beak, similar to a turtle, that is used for eating hard plant material. Their bodies were short and strong and could be small (like a pig) or large (like an ox).
Mammals started to evolve during this period. They were small, shrew-like creatures.
