Just then she saw something twinkling in the bush ahead of her.
Maybe it was the moon reflecting on a white stone she thought.
Amokura crept forward, trying not to make a sound.
And there it was, right in front of her.
A tiny magical village. It had toadstool houses with beautiful coloured lights.
It had flowers and tunnels and a waterfall that trickled down the bank.
Amokura watched in amazment as fairies and elves danced and played in the moonlight.
She blinked, not sure if she was dreaming.
One of the fairies saw Amokura watching. They all stopped dancing.
"It's ok" said Amokura "I won't hurt you".
She held out her hand. At first the fairies just stared at her but then one bravely flew into the palm of her hand.
The fairies gave Amokura some magic fairy bread to eat and some dew to drink which tasted like sugar.
One of the fairies gave her a beautiful putiputi to put in her hair.
The fairies showed Amokura all around the fairy village. She watched them as they danced and sang.
The sun was coming up. Amokura knew that she would have to go but she had lost her way.
"Don't worry " said the fairies " we'll help you home".
One of the fairies flew right up to her face, winked at her and blew a kiss and sprinkled magic fairy dust in her hair.
The next thing Amokura could remember was Nana's voice saying "Ara, ara"
Had she been dreaming?
Amokura sighed as she got up and began combing her hair.
"What a wonderful dream" she thought
Just then a beautiful putiputi dropped from her hair sprinkling magic dust on the whariki.
It wasn't a dream.
Amokura smiled and ran off to help Nana.
