I've thought about modern music. It occured to me one day that most music has no decent lyrics. They're not clever, or well worded. They are simply smashed together because it rhymes, or redefines the meaning of words. I couldn't understand why. I didn't understand how even lyrics and music that existed soley to get away from popular music never managed to come up with anything coherent. I mean, they were trying right? Why not try in the one area it actually matters?
In fact, these people are generally worse. I suspect it's because they're not, in fact, any better. They just act snobby. They're in the exact same generation making the exact same mistakes. They're so obsessed with trying to be diffrent they neglect to actually do so.
Anyway, I think I know how this all started. Ads. Ad jingles, to be precise. I suspect these tunes, which were designed solely to be catchy, had little to no need of lyrical talent beyond spouting the product name coherently. The less coherent the rest of the song was, and the catchier the tune, the more effective their subliminal mind attack was.
We're a nation built on the musical stylings of annoying advertisers.
Oh yeah, and E3 was cool.
