Forget About It
This is a classic mobster movie, but told in a different manner than most others. It's all about relationships, it isn't about the life in general. Starring Al Pacino and Johnny Depp, the movie follows Joseph Pistone ( Depp ), an undercover FBI agent, and his mob mentor, Lefty ( Pacino ). As Pistone, known as Donnie Brasco to the wiseguys, dives deeper and deeper into the ranks of the mafia, he comes to care for Lefty more and more. He knows that if they find out he's an agent, not only will he be dead, but so will Lefty
With actors like this heading up the cast, you can expect high calibur performances. Depp is brilliant as Pistone, it's almost like he grew up in Brooklyn and was a mobster his whole life. He has it all down, the attitude, the speech, the looks... there's nothing he can't pull off. And then there's Pacino, who is somewhat subdued in his role as the down on his luck Lefty. When I mean subdued, I mean he doesn't tell a roomful of people to "say hello to my little friend." He is still brilliant, and he and Depp eclipse the rest of the cast.
This movie isn't about the dazzling lifestyle of the gangsters. If anything, it's a realistic view into the life of a mob family. It's dark, gritty and full of shocking twists. The last conversation between Pistone and Lefty is full of tension, the viewer will literally be on the edge of his seat wondering what's going to happen. The chemistry between Depp and Pacino is simply amazing. So, if you've never seen this movie, I strongly suggest you do.
