Biography of Wu Tang Clan

In the early 1990’s RZA, GZA, ODB started creating music in their basement every night of the week. It was not until later that RZA, GZA and ODB got their friends and cousin's Method Man, U-God, Masta Killah, Inspector Deck, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah joined the group. This was the start of Wu-Tang Clan.

In 1991 Wu-tang Clan started to finalise their first album Enter the Wu-Tang’s 36 Chamber s, which was produced, financed and sold from the back of a van by Wu-Tang Clan themselves. In 1993 the album was a big success and went straight to the top of the Billboard charts and Wu-Tang were immediately signed by Loud Records. In the same year the single C.R.E.A.M was a top selling hit and was one of the top five selling singles. In 1994 U-God’s 2 year old baby boy was tragically shot, when two gangs were fighting. One of the baby boys kidneys was destroyed and his hand damaged he luckily survived.

It was not until 1997, when the group returned, that Wu-Tang released their long a waited second album Wu-Tang Forever, which was an improvement on their first album Enter The Wu-Tang 36 Chamber. Wu-Tang Forever saw an addition to the group Cappadonna. The album was a big success and was the start of solo careers for Method Man (who was signed by Def Jam), ODB (who was signed by Elektra records), and Raekwon stayed with Loud Records and RZA starting producing albums for other artists. 1997 was also the year that Wu-Tang Clan also started their own fashion Label Wu-wear, which was much liked by the world. Wu-Tang Clan also started their own website up www.wu-tang.com , which was also a top visited website of that year.

In 1998 the group was again reunited with the release of Wu-Tang Killah Bees, which saw The Suns of Man make guest appearances. Wu-Tang Killah Bees again went to the top of the Billboard charts and in many people’s eyes was the best album they released. In the same year RZA produced and released their forth album RZA Hits, which was Wu-Tang Clans greatest hits. In this album RZA speaks ahead of each track and introduces the song to the listener. RZA expresses how the group was feeling at the time, why they decided to release the album and which album the song came off.

In 2000 came the demise of one of the members ODB as it was placed in prison following a drugs charge. The new album The Wu was released with an emotional tribute to ODB. Singles from the album Gravel Pit and Protect ya Neck sold well and went straight to the top of the Billboard charts.
