Biography of Dr Dre

Real name, Andre Young. Born February 18th 1965 in Los Angles Compton started his rap career off in 1984 where he was then called DJ Compton. He had a massive hit called Surgery under this name.

In 1985 Dr Dre was part of “The World Class Wrecking Crew", which were very popular with main stream America. It was not till 1986, where Dr Dre really inserted his self as a professional gangster rap artist, when he joined probably the most feared gangster rap group in the world "N.W.A" with Easy- E, MC Ren and later Ice Cube. Song like “Straight Outta Compton” off the album titled the same, made the group extremely popular with American people because of the content of the songs. For example on one of the songs on the album the group are pictured shooting police this only made the brilliant four even more popular.

In 1990 while still part of "N.W.A" Dr Dre started to produce as well as rap. His first production of an album was the main song for the rap-sampler "We Are All In The Same Gang" which was very popular with the American public. However in the same year disaster struck after the release of "Niggaz4Life" "N.W.A" split up the reason for this was Dr Dre and the rest of the group said that Easy E was taking all the money from the sales of N.W.A’s albums and putting it into his own pocket. In a way this was good for Dr Dre because he had great success as a solo artist.

In 1992 Dr Dre released his first solo album “The Chronic” on his and Suge Knight’s label "Death Row". “The Chronic" sold millions of copies and became one of the best selling rap albums of 1992. “The Chronic” album helped Dr Dre with a Grammy Award in 1993 with his single “Let Me Ride” another top selling single off the album was “Ain’t Nottin But A G Thing” which launched the career of Snoop Doggy Dogg. Dr Dre and Snoop Doggy Dogg were now close friends and Dr Dre produced Snoop Doggy Dogg’s album “Murder Was The Case Soundtrack” in 1994.

In 1995 disaster struck for Dr Dre with the death of Easy- E, who he feuded with in 1991 but he still mourned his death. In the same year Dr Dre produced and rapped along side 2Pac on “California Love” which sold an amazing sum of copies and broke the bank in how many dollars they got. Also in that year Dr Dre brought out a song to accompany the film "Friday" starring his friend Ice Cube. The song was called “Keep Their Heads Ringing”, which was a massive hit. In that year Dr Dre spent six months in prison for sexual annoyance.

In 1996 "Death Row Records" broke down leaving Suge Knight in prison for G.B.H and the star of the label 2Pac murdered. Dr Dre was upset about this, but there was nothing he could do about it only to leave the label, which he did. In the same year he married his girlfriend Michel'le. Also in 1996 Dr Dre started his own label up called "Aftermath Entertainment", which he has produced two concerts “The Firm” with stars such as Foxy Brown and Nature. The second concert has been rated the best concert ever in rap music “ The Up In Smoke Tour” grossed in millions of dollars and had all-star rappers such as Warren G, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Dr Dre Ice Cube and Eminem. The concert was held in 2000 and will never be forgotten.

In 2000 Dr Dre released only his second solo in 8 years “The Chronic 2001” on his own label "Aftermath Entertainment". “The Chronic 2001” had an all-star line up of rap artists singing and rapping with Dr Dre these include: Snoop Doggy Dogg, Nate Dogg and MC Ren. “The Chronic 2001” was a hit and went multi time platinum and grossed millions of dollars.

Dr Dre is one of the all time greats and I hope this great rapper continues to influence young people to become rap artists.
