4936 Kinlet Hall

Here is a photograph of the Kinlet Hall 4936 4-6-0 taken at Bishops Lydeard Station on the West Somerset Railway in August 2003. Built at Swindon in June of 1929, Kinlet Hall began her working life in Chester carrying out mixed traffic services, working from such sheds as Wolverhampton, Oxley, and Shrewsbury. Kinlet Hall was then moved to Truro, Plymouth, and finally to Newton Abbot where she pulled express trains over the Devon Banks.

Kinlet Hall was withdrawn from service in January 1964, and was sent to Barry Scrapyard in June 1964 where she stood for 16 years. In 1981 she was restored and re-entered service on the Gloucester and Warwickshire Railway in may 1981. This Locomotive was seen for the first time in its green livery at Bristol Temple Meads in September 2001. Today, Kinlet Hall is running brilliantly on the West Somerset Railway where I travelled on a train pulled by her in August 2003.
