The Profitis Ilias Chapel on the island of Samos in Greece
Samos, Profitis Ilias Chapel Samos, Profitis Ilias Chapel Samos, Profitis Ilias Chapel Samos, Profitis Ilias Chapel Samos, Profitis Ilias Chapel

map Profitis Ilias, Samos Karvounis mountain in the Ampelos mountain region is 1153 meter high. Here on the top lies the small Chapel Profitis Ilias. Profitis Ilias is the name of the highest peak and from here you can look out over all of western Samos. There are remains of the old castle of Lazarus (on the Lazarus Mountain) and nearby are the remains of another fortress, the Castle of Loulouda. These fortresses were build in the 17th century during the period that the Arabs made regular raids on the island. The name of the mountain Lazarus derives from the church of Agios Lazarus which was located inside the fortress.
