A very nice pebble beach, with clear blue-green water, on the south west of the island, next to Vithisma. You can go by car or bike, leaving from the old village. There are three taverns, where you can enjoy lunch or drinks. It is a very populated beach because of its beauty, calm, clear sea and because it is near old Alonissos and Patitiri.
The beach is a favourite for the people of the Chora because they can walk down to it. The distance to the harbour of Patitiri is about six kilometer. The beach is shallow and so it's easy to get into the sea and safe for small children. It is also protected from strong winds. You can rent umbrellas and sunbeds but it is also possible to get some shade from the olive trees on the beach. Megalas Mourtias is a popular destination for people that like underwater snorkeling.
A litte bit further, a 3 kilometer distance of Patitiri, are the two pretty beaches of Marpounta, where you can also rent sunbeds and umbrellas.
