The village of Kataraktis on Chios - Pictures by Nelleke Glas

The village of Kataraktis is lovely and very Greek and the people are not really waiting for the tourists. This us what we found quite refreshing. There are more Greek people in the tavernas than tourists and it is nice to see that they go out for dinner in large groups and everybody shares the food. From here you can see all of Chios with a rental car from the airport or with the bus / taxi. Maybe not for a first time vist to Greece, but we have had a wonderful time here. The village of Karfas has some shops and a lovely sandbeach but it is also relatively small.
Ostria Studios in Chios
Nelleke stayed at Ostria Apartments at the end of a small road... pebble beach in front of the door, almost private. The owner easily carries your suitcases up the stairs. When we went down to the village for a tzaziki, frappé and ouzo we could leave averything behind on the small beach and he would keep an eye on it. The village of Kataraktis is situated 13 kilometers south of the capital of the island, Chios Town.

Tip: the restaurant of Meltemaki in Katarktis (according to Nelleke the best restaurant in the village) - especially see the menu card in the middle row of the pictures down below and read the last line.
