URBAN POPULATION: -

After studying the above-mentioned statistics, it become, clear that in 1951 only 17.6% population of our country used to reside in cities but the population of cities is increasing with the passage of time e.g. approx. after about 10 years 5% people began to live in cities. It means after about 10 years 5% people migrated from rural areas to urban areas. In this way after 10years i.e. in 197225.6% in 198128.18% and in 1998 it has increased to 32.5%. It means in the last seventeen years.

(1981 to 1998) the increase in urban population is approximately 4%.

RULAR POPULATION:

The above mentioned statistics indicate that rural population of our country is decreasing every year e.g. according to the first census of our country conducted in 1951 approximately 82.4% people used to live in rural areas, but according to 1961 census the ratio deceased to 77.5%. In the last 17 years approximately 4.2% people migrated to the cities.

The above-mentioned statistics reveal that in the last 17 years i.e. 1981 to 1998 the population to the rural areas has decreased from 71.9% in 1981 to 67.8% in 1998 approximately 4.2% decrease. In the same way the population of urban areas have increased 28.3% in 1998 to 32.5in 1998 i.e. increase of 4.2%. It means that every third person is settled in town or city of Pakistan.



COMPARISON OF BIG CITIES POPULATION OF PAKISTAN:

There are 23 big cities of Pakistan the population of which has exceeded to 2 lakh persons whereas there are 7 big cities who has more than 10 lakh persons.

The study of above mentioned figures show that population of some cities in Pakistan from 1981-98 has gone considerably higher e.g. like the population of Islamabad in 1981 was 3,40,000 persons only but in 1998 it has increased to 5,24,500 persons more than the population figures of 1981.

Similarly the population of Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Quetta cities has also gone up such as Peshawar, Gujranwala and Quetta increase in comparison to census of 1981.

Besides these, the population of Sargodha city has also increased. Same is the case of Karachi with in 17 years, the population of Karachi city has grown up from 52 lakh to 92 lakh and this increase is to high. The population of Lahore city was 29,50,000 in 1981, but within 17 years it has become 50,60,000 lakh and this increase is also very high.

Population of other cities such as Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Multan etc. has also increased considerably.
