At level 6, a character may have a sidekick. To have the ability to get a sidekick you must spend:
1,000 XP and $5,000. When this has been done you can get a sidekick. If the 1,000 XP drops you back to level 5, you must wait until you once again reach level 6. If your Heroic/Villainous score is high enough, not only will you have a Sidekick, but, your own personal army.
Heroic score - Your Heroic/Villainous score determines the number of your followers. The Heroic/Villainous score is your level ± Cha mod. No matter your Heroic/Villainous score, you can't recruit a sidekick at are above your level, or else you'd be their sidekick.
The following chart compares the Heroic/Villainous score with the level of sidekick attainable with that score:

In addition to a sidekick with a Heroic/Villainous score of 10, you may begin drawing a personal army. The following are a list in order of level of any personal army you may have. The numbers are divided by backslashes. Thus 25/2/1 means 25 1st level characters, 2 2nd level characters and 1 3rd level character in your army.

11 - 6
12 - 8
13 - 10/1

25 - 135/13/7/4/2/2
These numbers are willing followers who work for free. This is not the maximum army you can maintain (that is decided by the pocket book) merely the soldiers which come free of charge (save gear if you want more than a couple guys with rifles and baseball bats.)

As mentioned before it is best to recruit a sidekick of your alignment (Just for note, a Good character can not even recruit an Evil character.) Your natural Army is always within on alignment step of you (i.e. a CG char. will have CG, LG and NG followers). Should a sidekick die, it takes 1d4 months to recruit a new one; if the hero/villian is directly responsable it takes 1d12+5 months.
The differences between a Sidekick and an Army.
An Army is just that an army. Low level, armed and generally loyal (as long as you're not sending them up against 20th level characters for the fun of it.) A sidekick is like an elite solider, your constant companion. Armies generally speaking do not enter into most combat situations (except against other armies) and stay behind defending your home base from invasion, or running off to conquer and pillage. A sidekick, when in combat takes 1/2 XP and 1/2 a share of any cash. In order to figure in the XP, take say a team of 4 with one sidekick, if you fight a battle and earn 1,000 XP total; divide this by 5 for a total of 200. Now, take one of these one of the 200's and divide it in half for 100 (giving this to the sidekick) and divide the remaining 100 amongst the 4 others (25 each). Thus, the four PC's get 225 XP each while the Sidekick gets 100 XP.
