NFL Draft Reports - Casey Clausen

Casey has the smarts to be a NFL Quarterback, but he doesn't have the arm strength to ever be a starter at the next level.  Casey is quick into his drop and gets good depth in his steps.  He steps into his throws, but does have some chatter in his drop.  His delivery is a bit long in his delivery and his release is only average.  Casey had poor overall arm strength as shown in his out routes as the ball will float and flutter on him. Against Clemson, he was 0-4 on out routes across his body where he could have made completions.

On his deep throws, he can put the ball out there, but has a tendency to under throw and arc the ball too much allowing the defenders to play the ball.  Casey has better than average accuracy on passes less than five yards.  However, he will take too much off his throws and the ball gets out of his hand very slow on these throws.  Overall, he doesn't lead his receivers on all levels like he should.  Casey has average tough, but can really throw a beautiful fade route.  That is really the only time where he shows better than adequate touch.  Casey has good field vision reading all levels and sides of the field.  When he is flushed out the pocket, Casey keeps his head up field looking for a receiver.  He is certainly no threat to run the ball as he will try to do much after he passes the line of scrimmage.  But if asked to roll out, he has the ability to do that.  While throwing on the move, Casey has below average accuracy as he doesn't square his shoulders at all.  He is an average ball handler that won't force throws into coverage.  Overall, Casey is a good leader, but has been very inconsistent.  He clearly doesn't have the arm strength to be a starter, but has worked hard and won't make the dumb mistake.  He may go undrafted, but a chance in the late 7th for a Quarterback that is smart and knows how to win, what is wrong with that?

General: A team leader that has always been on a winning team.  Good size, but lacks overall athletic ability.  He doesn't put up great numbers.  Good character.  Not durable.
