One of the things that amazed me most was the size
and abundance of the trees. Never in all my
life have I seen so many tall TALL trees.
Before the Civil War the slaves would clear the fields
for planting. Every time they dug up a rock they
would add it to a wall that bordered the property
or field. Thus the astounding amount of stone
walls in the area. There is no cement or mortar to
hold these walls together. They are simply stacked
stones that have stood on thier own for hundreds
of years...Amazing
Much of the area is farmland. The rolling hills of
fields are really pretty. These green fields are
mostly hay that they use to feed the live stock
they keep. Whatever it's for it really is lovely.
Nothing I have seen in my home state of California compares.
