She attended George Mason University for a little bit. She came in second place at the Miss Korean Washington Pageant. She also went to St. Paul Chung Church. Music has always been with J. Her father, Hee Taek Chung, was the leader of a 1960's Korean Rock Band. He moved the family to America in 1979 when J was one. The singer/pianist Goon-Su Chung is J's grandfather. Also the well known song "Near the Flower Garden" was sung by J's aunt and uncle, Hoon-Hee Chung, and Tae Hwa Kim. From the love of music by her family, and growing up to the music her father listened to, no wonder she fell in love with music. J's first album was a modest success, but did not gain her the attention and respect she deserved. Working even harder on her second album, she released "In Love", which succeeded beyond anyone's expectations. Having hits like "Uh Jae Chu Lum" and "Time Out", J accomplished what she had wanted to in her first, attention and respect. Now she is considered one of the most popular and best female solo singers in Korea. Not stopping with success, in 2000 J released an English album, "Chocolate", becoming one of the first Korean-American artists to release an album in the US. Though the songs were mainly renditions of her Korean songs, she showed her versatility in singing both Korean and English songs. And now, her third album has been released.
