Out
of This World is one of the few SNES games that made me say "wow." I played
this game for the first time in 1993, and it seem almost beyond belief.
You control a rather weak character and explore a hostile alien planet.
Now that I think about it, it kinda reminds me of Quake2... Your only
weapons are a laser gun and an alien friend. Very cool.
Graphics: (8/10) Now this is mostly opinion
but I think a lot of credit is deserved for the art in this game. It's
abstract but simple throughout the whole game. Everyone's movements are
extremely life-like. And the close up scenes are blocky, but suprisingly
realistic. I just love the way this game looks.
Sound: (7/10) Sound is a major element in
Out of This World. You actually hear the alien's voices and they're terrifying.
Music is almost always present and your actions effect it. You can be
sure every intense momment will be accompanied by intense music. The sound
in this game always adds to the mood.
Fun: (8/10) Most of the fun in this game
is generated by the realism. You are given a laser gun and you've gotta
use it right. It's an alien weapon and it's more complex than is seems.
You've got to test out things you don't understand until you get it. Warm
up your "Save State" buttons too, because a lot of the combat is trial
and error. It can get really difficult, but the struggle is fun.
Creativity: (8/10) Out of This World constantly
throws you into new situations on the alien planet. You have to run from
wild animals, escape from jail, crawl through pipes, and even operate
an alien tank! Even though it's a 2d-shooter, it's one of the most unique
SNES games I've ever played.
Multi-Player:
Nope, too bad.
