Beach
California is known for its beautiful beaches.
Fresno is a little lacking in this area, but there
are other locations within an easy drive.
Water temperatures are surprising cool. A certain person from the East coast was amazed to discover that the Atlantic Ocean is probably twenty degrees warmer than the Pacific, at any given time.
It is possible to swim all afternoon at the New Jersey shore.
The beach movies? The actors are on the sand, not in the water! Surfers are wearing wet suits. As a kid growing up in New Jersey, I never noticed these details.
My introduction to the Pacific Ocean was the time I drove to Pismo, and ran into the water. When I realized that I was knee deep and numb, I actually wanted to scream with surprise. Everyone seemed to enjoy watching the new guy get wet. I suspect that I was not the first person to discover ice water.
Given a choice of activities, people will either
stand and become mesmorized by the water (see
photo above) or they will align themselves with
the surf and hope for seafood (see photo below).
On that subject, there are lots of good
hamburger stands at all of the beaches. Did you
ever wonder why someone would go to the
ocean to eat beef? The same thing happens on
the East coast. People are funny.
