Traditional archery

If for some reason you have not tried traditional archery, It's time. You will feel no better reward than learning to shoot one of these bows well. There are three basic types of traditioal bows. RECURVE-- The most popular and the easiest to master if you will. These come in take down models as well as solid. I have shot both and the take down model has no bad shooting flaws that you have heard about. My favorite bow is a SKY SKYHAWK 55#@ 28" takedown recurve. I could not ask for a better shooting bow. LONG BOWS-- Unlike the recurve a long bow when unstrung is for the most part straight. These can be very nice bows to shoot. Be careful when setting out to buy a long bow if not made by a compitant bowyer the can have a lot of hand shock which can turn you off of longbows all togather. Before purchasing any equipment see if you can shoot it first, If not try to find someone that has one that they may let you shoot. SELFBOWS-- Unlike the recurve and longbow when a selfbow is unstrung it is a "stick". I mean it is a stick, A selfbow is make from one solid peace of wood or "stave". These are not for everybody. They are the hardest to master and by far they can have the most hand shock, Also watch out for arm slap, they are brutial! I have shot some of them are almost unbearable to shoot and others that I could shoot all day. I personally think the best wood to make a selfbow from the Osage orange tree. (hedge apple) this wood is hard as rocks and twice as strong but working with it can try your wits. It will dull a chainsaw blade in a matter of a few cuts and can test your will when working with it but I promise when you finish a bow if done right it will last forever.
