Directscan Tuning Data
Well, I finally have Directscan installed. It takes the place of the Diacom program that I have used for quite a few years. Diacom is a good program but like others, is limited by the slow 1.5 second update rate of the ALDL connector. Now, at 18 frames per second and with the additional data that is monitored by Directscan I can really see what's going on. On this page I plan to list some of the  Directcan runs that I save in order for others to "see" how my Buick responds to my alcohol system and also any other modifications. At this time I do not have much data saved because it has been cold and snowy here in the Northeast. The first run was from a rolling start at about 45 mph that resulted in wheelspin to about 60-65 mph. Top speed attained in the initial test was 108mph. The data looked pretty good. Nothing looked too far out of wack and I was pleased with what I found. I will be adding additional Directscan files eventually and I will also be adding comments from time to time. You will need the Directcan software to view the files. It is available free online. If you save the DS file to the same folder that you download Directscan to you will be able to view any DS files. Click on the following link to visit the Directscan web site.

My Directscan Files

In order to view the file(s) you should follow the following procedure. First, you should download Directscan from the link above. It does not have to actually be installed on your computer. Just save it in a folder of your choice. In order to run Directscan just double click on it. You will not be able to do much with it until you download a DS file to load into the buffer. After you have saved Directscan to your folder you can download the file(s) listed below. Here's what you do.
1. Right click on the file.
2. Choose "save target as" option
3.Chose the folder you want to save it in (IT IS BEST TO SAVE IT IN THE SAME FOLDER AS DIRECTSCAN WAS SAVED IN) by using the "Save in" dialogue box. (You will notice that it may have a txt file extension after the file name. Don't worry about that. Just save it as is.
4. After you have saved the file you will have to find it by using Windows Explorer.
5. Right click on the file and choose "Rename"
6.Rename it whatever you want. Don't use any file extension- DS will recognize it.
7. You will likely get a pop up message that says "if you change a filename extension, the file may become unstable. Are you sure you want to change it?"  Just click yes.
8. Now you're all set to go to Directscan and open the program.
9. When the program opens go to File menu and choose "Load Buffer". A list of files in that directory will appear. Use the arrow keys to scroll to the file(s) that you downloaded and then hit Enter.
10. Select Buffer Redisplay and hit enter.
11. Choose whatever screen display type you would like to view the file with. (You can quickly change from one screen to another by hitting the F10 key.
12. Enjoy!!

If you have any problems just email me. The above procedure does work. I am not sure if the file has to be renamed and the txt extension dropped. It is not a text file so that is why I rename it and drop the extension. The fact that it downloads as a text file is probably due to the way I upload the file to the ftp site. If I can change that  to make it a bit easier in the future I will do that.
