Edith Molina

Hi...Pleased meeting you...My name is Edith Molina and I am the artist
who created all the little bears you are about to meet on this site.
I have always loved dolls but never considered actually making them.
One day I bought a cloth dolls magazine, some fabric and I found that not
only could I make them, but I really enjoyed making them. I felt I had
found a hobby! After the dolls I made different stuffed animals, and
started selling my hobby toys. The best seller was Ludy, a cute chubby
monkey.
In 1989 I saw an artist Teddy Bear for the first time and fell in love with
him. I then added bears to my creations. They were not made from Mohair but from
fake fur. It was the only material available in Mexico to make stuffed toys.
Although there is no Teddy Bear tradition in Mexico my bears were welcome
especially the big bears. Who can resist the charm of a Teddy Bear?
In 1992 my husband and I immigrated to Canada. I continued with my bear
making, but changed the fake fur for real fur. I specialized in mink bears.
A few years ago I discovered the crocheted bears made by wonderful artists on
ebay and those tiny bears captured my heart! I sat at my computer for hours
watching them and tried to figure out how they were made, so tiny and detailed,
and also fully jointed. They could pose any way you wanted. Head, arms and legs
could move. I had to make one! After so many attempts I finished my first
miniature bear from thread. To this day I have made so many of them. Some now
live in far away countries and some of them are with me.
I make the patterns of the bears I design for others to learn this wonderful
art.
I also like to crochet and knit small dolls clothes.
