Game Review
Hesperia Christian opened its first home game of the 2004-2005 season with a hard-fought victory over previously unbeaten (3-0) Academy of Academic Excellence by a score of 56-44. The Patriots were led by senior Nate Glass who had his first double double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds.Senior Loren Barton followed Glass' lead scoring 12 points including two critical 3 point shots in the fourth quarter.HCS' domination of the boards with 39 rebounds was a contributing factor in the win. Vince Ajanwachuku of AAE had 12 points in the losing effort. AAE put up a tough effort and every time one thought HCS was ready to put the Knights away, they would come back. The outcome of the game was in doubt until the final two minutes when HCS finally was able to bank this game in the win column. The Patriots shot an unbelievable 71% from the three point line with Glass and Loren Barton getting 2 out of 3 attempts and junior Zach Howard getting 1/1 from the three point line. On the negative side of this victory was the abysmal free throw shooting. Other than Howard who shot 100% (he has only missed one free throw all season) the team shot 30% from the charity line.
AAE dropped to 3-1 while the Patriots are now 2-0. The Patriots resume play on Friday against Upland Christian, winners over Victor Valley Christian.
Game Preview
Hesperia Christian meets Academy of Academic Excellence in the first round of the Hesperia Christian Holiday Classic. These teams last met two years ago in the first round of Div VAA playoffs with the Patriots winning 91-61. The Patriots are 1-0. AAE is 3-0. This game will be a great opportunity for the Patriots to further develop their inside game and improve on their free throw shooting per centage.
