Remembrances of Neil Gary Markowitz

Just wanted to let you know that I was with Neil on the Tuesday before he passed away. He was very sick by then and it would have taken a miracle for him to get better. He had been sick for over a year. Things started looking good after his initial surgery and he was back at work. He wanted to go to his son Lucas' graduation from the University of Vermont. He made it but at graduation dinner he had an episode which started a downward spiral.

I was friends with Neil and his wife Helen for about 27 years. When I had my business in Millburn, his wife was a customer and we all got together. I was on vacation with them when they conceived their son.

He was a good friend, a good listener,a person who gave of himself to anyone who needed a favor and he will be missed by myself, my wife, and my son, who he fondly called ETZ.

The funeral home was packed last Sunday. I was a pallbearer and it was so hard to do it, but his wife said he would want me to do it.

He will be missed by all who he knew.

Neil Markowitz was a gentle loving soul. We reunited in 2001. I will miss him and our email correspondences. May he rest in peace.

So many losses and sadness these days. I wrote to Sandy directly but wanted to share my thoughts with others... With deepest regrets to the Markowitz family. I grew up knowing the entire family and was many times called Freda because we looked so much alike. May Neil rest in peace and his family know that we all share their loss.

I felt very sad when I read of the passing of Sandy Markowitz's brother Neil. We would play stick ball in the street in front of the his house on Pomona Ave....his mom fixed the zipper on my jacket one day when it was stuck....gave us snacks. My deepest condolences to Sandy and his family. I hope they find comfort in and strength from their memories of Neil.

I want to send my sincerest condolences to Sandy Markowitz and family and Neil's widow and family on Neil's passing. I was hoping to see Neil at our 40th class reunion last October, but he couldn't make it due to his illness. He may be gone, but he'll live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

Please forward my condolences to Sandy. I knew Neil not only from Weequahic, but college as well. He was one of the good guys and will be missed.
